Definition

A standardized rights statement that describes access permissions and restrictions for the public user. This statement will generally be specific to a collection or an organization. A default rights statement should be available for a generic description of broadly applicable rights in the absence of a specific statement. Also, the ability to add a generic free-text description should be supported for a rights declaration at the resource level.

rightsDeclaration has the following components:

• A value (the actual statement)
• Attributes:
  • authority
  • ID

Generally, a statement specific to a project or a collection will be used within a template.

An organization may want to use eye-readable license text or reference a relevant Creative Commons license via URL link in this data element. CF: www.creativecommons.org.
