The class of object, as identified primarily by its physical makeup. Determines which elements and vocabularies will be displayed in source metadata. For example, if you choose 'analog disc' as source type, elements such as diameter and groove characteristics will display. If you choose 'film,' elements such as length and color characteristics will display instead.
Usage Note
The value found in this field determines which elements and vocabularies will appear on the input form under source metadata. For example, if 'videodisc' is selected, the 'diameter' data element will appear, whereas if audiotape is selected, 'length' will appear instead. The system defaults to a controlled vocabulary. If your records use a different set of source type terms, use the Utility Configuration module to map them to OpenMIC's system default values to enable the correct elements to appear for each physical format.
Controlled Vocabulary
Analog disc; Audiotape; Cylinder; Film; Optical disc; Photographic; Text or graphic (paper); Three-dimensional object; Videodisc; Videotape; Wire recording [source: rulib]
