This field indicates the generational version of the original work the object represents. Technical metadata is used to document all technical and physical characteristics of digital files, including born digital source files. A resource may have both a born digital source file and a digital preservation master cataloged in separate instances of technical metadata. Provenance information about a digital source file will be captured in source metadata, however.
