Last updated: November 11th, 2008
Name
rightsEvent
Schema
rulib
Definition
An empty parent element for all elements comprising the Rights Event. The Rights Event captures any event (action occurring in a specific place and time) associated with the rights of the work. Each Rights Event has the attribute, Identifier, with a system-supplied identifier that enables events to link to other events or to metadata documents, so that the application of a watermark, for example, can be linked to the Technical metadata document that describes the manifestation of the resource that has been watermarked.

rightsEvent has the following components:
  • Subelements:
    • identifier
    • type
    • label
    • place
    • dateTime
    • detail
    • associatedEntity
    • associatedObject
Usage Note
Use the Rights Event elements to track the rights of a resource, and/or when you wish to link the bibliographic record (the description of the resource) to supporting documentation of rights (e.g., an electronic deed of gift) or information about an agent (e.g., donor) related to the rights. Rights Events include rights clearance or documentation; rights transfers or licenses and DRM implementations; Rights Event is an optional element. When there are multiple events of a single type, input each as a separate event.
