Full Record: A full-record search will find items in the bibliographic record only.
Full Text: A full-text search will find items in both the bibliographic record and the full text. (Note: not all objects have searchable full-text.)
NJEDL supports the Boolean logic operators AND and OR. It does not support NOT.
Example 1
fish AND wildlife = Records must contain BOTH words
Example 2
fish OR wildlife = Records can contain either word, or both
Mixed Boolean searches such as "raptor or falcon and habitat" are not supported.
NJEDL supports right-truncated queries. The query term "pollut*" finds all documents containing the word "pollution," or "polluting."
Caveats:
Truncation occasionally misses "unusual" word endings. For example, "pollut*" misses the word "pollutant."
Truncation sometimes returns unanticipated (and unwanted) hits. Be aware that if you search bear* - you will retrieve bear, bears but also bearing, bearable!
Use double quotes, e.g. "raritan river basin" to find exact phrases.
Enter a four digit year or use a wildcard (asterisk) to broaden the search, e.g. 195* for the 1950s.
