Guidance for the NSF Data Management Grant Requirement

The National Science Foundation is now requiring a data management plan to ensure data that is usable, broadly available and sustained for long term access. RUresearch, a portal of RUcore, meets all the areas identified in the NSF guidelines for data management, including preservation, sustainability and metadata—for data sets but also for accompanying research products. The RUresearch data support team can provide guidance, review and support for your data management plan preparation. In addition, there are several checklists that can help you identify key elements of your data management plan, most notably:
  • Published data management policies governing collection management, intellectual property and sustained access to research data. RUcore has published data policies that can be referenced in your grant proposal and that we can customize to your unique project needs.
  • Checklist from data.rutgers.edu (OVPR)
  • Checklist from MIT Libraries
  • Elements and Framework of DMP from ICPSR, along with a Webinar on the topic
Many NSF Directorates will provide specific guidance that will be referenced by the solicitation for grant proposals.
