This is a studio photo of Evelyn Winterbottom Parkinson, a member of WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) during WWII. Evelyn was sworn in at Atlantic City, NJ, in August, 1943 and sent to Hunter College in the Bronx, NY. She became a Pharmacist's Mate, 3rd Class and received her training at the Brooklyn Naval Hospital. She was sent to her duty station at the U.S. Training Center in Bainbridge, MD, where she remained until her discharge in December, 1945.
This photo was part of a wall display presentation in honor of the women who served in the Armed Forces of the United States. The museum presentation was prepared for Memorial Day 2001, and remained until the end of the year. The photos were mounted on red construction paper and the narrative placed on white paper stars. Both were mounted on a blue background.
