DescriptionTwo computational studies are performed to examine the influence of energy deposition on a blunt body in supersonic flow. The first objective is to determine the effect of increasing filament diameter on the efficiency and effectiveness of drag reduction to a blunt body. The second objective is to evaluate the influence of the energy filaments on the heat transfer to the blunt body. The energy deposition is modeled as a low density, high temperature filament that is injected in the freestream and interacts with the blunt body. A code is written to solve the compressible Navier Stokes equations to evaluate these effects.
