DescriptionThis study used self-report data from patients at a primary care clinic at a University Medical center to further understand the relationship between adherence to treatment and patients’ perceptions of their providers’ ability to address patient models of illness and treatment (i.e., common sense model mastery; CSM-mastery). Analyses tested whether this relationship was mediated by treatment efficacy beliefs and moderated by pre-visit worry. Results of regression analyses indicated that treatment efficacy beliefs did not mediate the relationship between CSM-mastery and adherence to treatment. Additionally, pre-visit worry did not moderate the relationship between CSM-mastery and adherence to treatment.
