The Speciation of Organics for Apportionment of PM2.5 (SOAP) field sampling program was operated over 2002-2007 in the New York City Area by Rutgers University and partnered with the state air monitor bureaus of NY, NJ and CT. The program goal was to better understand the abundance, composition and sources of fine particles present in the NYC metropolitan region. This collection provides access to data products generated by the SOAP project, documenting carbonaceous fine particle concentrations for urban, upwind, and downwind sites for emission source markers and for elemental and organic carbon mass fractions. Evidence is given for wood smoke, motor vehicle and restaurant emissions as fine particle sources. The geospatial information system (GIS) embedded in the SOAP results can be used as input for other modeling or assessments needed for documenting and controlling sources of fine particles in the NYC airshed.
