Abstract (type = abstract)
Tablet dissolution modeling has seen multiple eff orts from both empirical and physical approaches. We present an expandable 3-D Cartesian framework for modeling many of the physical processes involved in tablet dissolution, which allows for powerful model manipulation. The primary focus of this framework is the way in which the moving boundaries are handled, while the internal mechanisms represent one possible set of physical process interaction. The effects of external fluid shear and internal density profiles are compared for several cases including active and inactive internal processes.
