Abstract (type = abstract)
This mosaic of Orpheus taming wild animals, dated A.D. 194, originates in Edessa, Turkey. Until recently it was at the Dallas Museum of Art, but has now been returned to Turkey. The Syriac inscription gives the name of the mosaic-maker and the name of his profession, roṣupho.
