Description
TitleReviewing rod relationships and the candy bar problem, Clip 1 of 6: Whole class review of number name problems
PublisherNew Brunswick, NJ: Robert B. Davis Institute for Learning, , c1993-09-24
DescriptionAt the start of the first clip, the researcher Carolyn Maher asked the students to solve tasks similar to the ones that they had worked on earlier in the week. She asked Audra to tell her what the brown rod would be called if the purple rod was called one half. Audra spoke with her partner, Sarah, and then replied that the brown rod would be called one if the purple rod would be called one half. Then, the researcher asked the students to tell her what the brown rod would be called if the purple rod was called one. Laura used a model of two purple rods and a brown rod to explain that it would be called two. The researcher then asked the class what the yellow rod would be called if the orange rod had the number name two. Jacquelyn replied that it would be called one.
