Abstract
(type = summary)
In the fifth and final clip from this session, researcher Carolyn Maher asked Jessica to re-explain her original model. Jessica restated her argument, saying that the model showed that one half was larger than one third by the red rod, which was one third. Brian then repeated his counterargument. He said that when one third is split in half, each part becomes one sixth. He showed that the difference could not be one third, since the two thirds were larger than one half by one sixth. Erik then joined the argument. He stated his argument three times in succession, with slight modifications, along with some added commentary by Brian. Michael then joined the discussion. He stated that one half was larger than one third by one sixth and showed this by lining up six red rods above the orange and red train. Brian and Erik agreed with Michael. Meredith showed that one half was not larger than one third by one third, showing that if one third was used to show the difference, it would be one sixth bigger than the length of one half. Erik then repeated his argument that it could not be one third bigger, and that it had to be one sixth.
