Interview conducted by Giles Wright for the New Jersey Historical Commission's New Jersey Multi-Ethnic Oral history Project. The interview is with Mildred Arnold, an African-American who was born in South Carolina and moved to Newark, New Jersey, in 1924 at the age of 8. The interviewee discused her personal life, race relations in South Carolina and New Jersey, African-American social customs, and Ms. Arnold's views on politics, Newark, and the future of society.
