Abstract (type = summary)
This was the second session that the Kenilworth students explored probability through dice games in grade 6 This video followed a group of students (Stephanie, Ankur, Brian, Michelle R., and Angela) as they work on the following problem: A Final Game - Winner Takes All -Roll two, six sided, dice. If their sum is 7, Player A wins the game. If the sum is 8, Player B wins. Continue rolling the dice until there is a winner. Suppose you have a choice to be Player A or Player B. Which would you choose? Explain your decision. The group works to find a way to make the game fair and produces a model that has 36 elements. Stephanie creates a histogram to represent all possible outcomes for throwing two dice (included in student work) and presents it to the class. While Stephanie is presenting, Jeff proposes a sample space of 21 outcomes. The conflict leads to a discussion about whether the order of outcomes matter, that is, whether an outcome of (1,2) is the same as (2,1). The class decides that the sample space of 36 represents all outcomes of a fair game.
