Abstract

In this clip, researcher Amy Martino asks Dana and Stephanie to work on an extension to the shirts and pants problem: How many outfits can Stephen make if he has an additional pair of black jeans? After working on the problem, they both agree that the answer is nine, and Stephanie explains their solution to Amy. Amy then asks them to think about how many combinations they could make with a fourth pair of jeans, and Dana builds on the pattern they had observed, saying, “…three, six, nine, twelve, it would be twelve”.
