TY - JOUR TI - National gallery of modern what DO - https://doi.org/doi:10.7282/T3NV9MDV PY - 2016 AB - The fallout of India’s 2014 General Elections — the largest in human history — connects and changes three young artists forever. We follow Hagga, a a smooth-talking radio-jockey and self-described ‘voice monkey’ on the run from the shadowy Election Commission. The following excerpt contains nine chapters of the novel's first section — National — narrated by Hagga, along with one set-piece from 'Internet Hindus' who espouse their larger cause. As the story unfolds, we follow Hagga's escape to Goa in the company of Ayesha Bano, a synesthetic painter trying to escape her conservative Muslim roots and KK, a hermetic commercial designer who offers them work and his home for five days. ‘Will Hagga get caught?’ and ‘What does he do next?’ are the secondary plot threads tied to the stake of a creative artist trying to regain control of his talent and future. As a young Indian from a smaller city, hungry for both power and responsibility, Hagga's journey towards the new right-wing government is a mirror of the choices we all make. Note: The text currently uses British / Indian English spelling to fit the milieu of the characters. KW - Creative Writing LA - eng ER -
