Abstract (type = abstract)
This case study illustrates how theoretical and methodological integration may occur in an emergent way through the treatment of an individual suffering from complex trauma. Integrative psychotherapy is often put forth as a response to trends that emphasize evidence-based practice protocols in response to a patient's varying diagnoses. By way of contrast, the author emphasizes an integrative approach that stems from an alternative understanding of how expert practitioners respond in real-world situations. A postmodern/social constructivist perspective is advocated as a method to facilitate integration while acknowledging the often-antithetical character of various treatment approaches.
