Guitarist and banjo player Danny Barker had a long and prolific career. He was born in New Orleans in 1909. As the nephew of drummer Paul Barbarin, he was exposed to Jazz at an early age. He was a member of Benny Carter's Big Band in 1938 and was the rhythm guitarist for Cab Calloway from 1939-1949. He also performed "Jazz on the River" concert cruises along the Hudson in New York City. He returned to New Orleans and married Blue Lu Barker. The two performed with the Fairview Baptist Church Christian Band. Until his death in 1994, he also lectured on Jazz and served as assistant curator of the New Orleans Museum of Jazz. He authored two books on Jazz, "A Life in Jazz (1986) and "Buddy Bolden and the Last Days of Storyville" (1998-posthumous)
