The quilter is Annie R. (Little) Mangumn (1900-1989). She was the great aunt of the owner of the quilt, Lillie Edwards. Having worked in domestic service all of her life in Columbus, GA, and then in Ohio, Aunt Annie returned to Georgia to help care for her parents circa 1950. Her quilts were made from household fabrics, usually discarded clothes and other household items. Most of her quilts were hand pieced, as is this one. This quilt was used as bedding.

Common Heritage: Uncommon Quilts exhibition and preservation event
The Montclair Historical Society and the Nubian Heritage Quilters Guild were jointly awarded a Common Heritage grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for a quilt exhibition and preservation project on June 11 and 12, 2016. The exhibit will ran through the end of July at the Montclair Historical Society’s Crane House and Historic YWCA, Montclair, NJ. The preservation component of this event allowed visitors to bring quilts form their own homes and get photographs taken of their work by a professional photographer.
