This was a quilt that was made by my sister's husband's mother (Ernestine R. Russell) who lived in Norlina, NC. After she passed away, my sister and her husband were cleaning out the house and found a box of quilts in the attic. My sister gave me one of the quilt tops that needed to be quilted. I gave the quilt top to my niece Jewel (Minnie Melvin) who lives in Newark, NJ to complete. That's how I got this quilt.

Common Heritage: Uncommon Quilts exhibition and preservation event
The Montclair Historical Society and the Nubian Heritage Quilters Guild were jointly awarded a Common Heritage grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for a quilt exhibition and preservation project on June 11 and 12, 2016. The exhibit will ran through the end of July at the Montclair Historical Society’s Crane House and Historic YWCA, Montclair, NJ. The preservation component of this event allowed visitors to bring quilts form their own homes and get photographs taken of their work by a professional photographer.
