DescriptionThe current way in which Android warns users about the capabilities their apps request, do not effectively warn users about their security risks. This work focused on the design, implementation and evaluation of smartphone warning system. We also utilized psychological framing for design of warning messages. These warning messages were delivered to the user in a field study (N = 41) using their personal smartphones. We present effective strategies for warning smartphone users. These resulted in average longer viewing/interaction times, higher on average rate at which they consider making changes to their permission settings and were more likely to view apps requesting their permissions.
