Abstract
The Splendor is a novel which follows the life of a struggling mid-career artist known solely as Y. as she participates in the only artist residency that will accept her application. The residency ultimately serves as a microcosm of the greater world as issues of attachment and jealousy arise among the artists, issues which disrupt the protagonist’s commitment to a solitary life. The novel explores questions of community responsibility, emotional inheritance, and the purpose of art when navigating loss.
