DescriptionThis collection of poetry uses vignettes, many from the author’s personal and family history, to tell a story of survival as an on-going journey—rather than destination—for which guilt is a constant companion. The Atlantic City Boardwalk, East Jersey State Prison, and basement of Seaman Baptist Church are just a few settings where the reader will meet characters who reject, blame, and denounce while others accept, forgive, and eulogize. In Date of Birth, the poems follow the lives of characters who lust, hate, confess, rescue, bless, curse, and abandon. This collection leads with a list of dirty little secrets and ends with the poet paying homage to women writers in her family who came before her.
