DescriptionThe purpose of this DNP project is to implement a pilot wellness program for SRNAs at Rutgers University to promote a balance between academic requirements and overall well-being. Due to academic demands, financial strain, sleep deprivation and lack of social time, the well-being of student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs) is being challenged (Conner, 2015). The pilot wellness program follows the multifactorial concept of the AANA wellness program, while also addressing the needs of SRNAs at Rutgers University. The quantitative non-experimental cohort study at Rutgers University includes three cohorts in the 36-month nurse anesthesia program. The implementation of the wellness program includes a yoga/meditation class, a Healthy Lifestyle Choices Lecture, and an off-campus outing to the "Amazing Escape Room" in Montclair, NJ. A reliable and validated assessment tool called the Salutogenic Wellness Promotion Scale (SWPS) was used; it evaluates the presence of health promoting actions in seven dimensions of life including emotional, vocational, environmental, social, intellectual, physical, and spiritual well-being.
