DescriptionPurpose of Project:
The intent of this DNP project is to determine if a faith-based education program would improve the knowledge related to understanding hypertension and its related diseases amongst African American adults.
Methodology:
Participants completed a hypertension questionnaire before the education session and then after. The sessions were implemented within small groups within a faith-based organization. The study took place over a two week time frame. 20 participants participated in the study.
Results:
Study results were collected and data analysis was done comparing pre-test scores and post-test scores. The results showed an increase in knowledge after the session as compared to the pre-implementation phase.
Implications for Practice:
The African American church is viewed as a place of refuge and trust. And it's because of this that faith-based organizations play such a significant role in improving the health of its members and it also is a place of support which can be helpful in providing for health maintenance behaviors.
