DescriptionThis collection of interlinked short stories highlights eclectic youth from the Midwest. Many of them come from marginalized identities (sexuality, womanhood, and race) but these stories focus on their souls and their spirits more than anything.
Here's a short excerpt taken from the beginning:
Not so long ago, most of the Midwestern youth had been gifted with the solemn loneliness of believing they were a selected few of their kind, stranded but gleaming from the middle of America like diamonds. Now, overcast fell into their eyes and they weren’t sure which of their bouquet of experiences they wished to share with the world. They had fears of limitation, inadequacy, and felt a lack of big-city knowledge and cultural influence. Their confidence wilted, their politeness shifted from a place of sincerity to a fear of being taken as something they weren’t—like an insensitive person or a supporter of an evil that seemed to be transitioning to a normalization in the country.
