Abstract (type = abstract)
Purpose of Project: The objective of this project aimed at standardizing the length of stay (LOS) for alcohol detoxification admission by showing that a 7-day stay as compared to a 5-day stay resulted in decreased CIWA scores and lower Librium doses.
Methodology: A retrospective chart review was used to compare CIWA scores.
Results: A total of 50 charts were reviewed and CIWA scores were lower at 7-days than 5-day for those in alcohol detoxification treatment.
Implications for Practice: Use of CIWA will help standardize practice for length of stay for those undergoing alcohol detoxification in-patient treatment facilities.
