DescriptionThis study explores vicarious trauma experienced within the crime scene investigator community and whether any correlation exists between the mental health wellness of CSIs and the availability of workplace wellness programs. Few studies have been done in the past that focus on this community. The goal of this study was to gain a further understanding of the vicarious trauma that crime scene investigators experience while on the job, measure the level of workplace wellness programs available, and obtain further insight into their professional experiences and the emotions that follow. There have been many studies which explored the effects of vicarious trauma on first responders, like police officers and emergency medical technicians, but the CSI field remains less observed; it is only recently that this area has gained some attention. The researcher theorized that participants would indicate a high level of stress experienced on the job and a low presence of wellness programs and mental health and mental health training being given, as well as the job having a personal impact on their lives outside of work.
