DescriptionPurpose of Project: DNP students experience extreme level of stress in many areas of life and education. Stress response once stimulated can affect many facets of a student’s life. This may impact their physical health, their relationships with family and friends, or even negatively affect their academic experience, and generally reduce their quality of life. Delivering a mindfulness intervention is an effective implementation to decrease stress. This project implemented an eight weeks Online Mindfulness-Stress Based Reduction for DNP students that addressed perceived stress and promoted mindfulness awareness.
Methodology: This was a Quasi-experimental project with a pre/posttest design, that took place entirely online. A social media site was used to recruit participants, Survey Monkey and Google Classroom were used to sign the consent form, and to complete the study requirements. Four DNP students participated in a two hours per-week, eight-week mindfulness training intervention. The study measured perceived stress and mindfulness awareness pre and post intervention.
Results: Participants that received the eight-week MSBR intervention reported decrease perceived stress and increase mindfulness awareness.
Implications for Practice: MSBR training provides DNP students the skills to effectively manage stress thereby decreasing their experience of these symptoms. DNP programs would benefit from including such training as part of the general educational requirements.
