Note(s)Gil Evans (Ian Ernest Gilmore Green) (1912-1988) was an American jazz arranger, composer, pianist and bandleader. A self-taught musician, he led his own band in southern California from 1933 to 1938, before working with both Claude Thornhill and Miles Davis. With this work largely unnoticed by critics and audiences, Evans worked in radio and television before returning to jazz with Columbia recordings written for and featuring Davis.
