DescriptionMy unnamed protagonist learns that her dead mother kept an Instagram account for their Papillon, Frank (@FranklintheFluff). The narrator dropped out of her final semester at Columbia to deal with her mother’s death. The protagonist makes a goal of making Franklin Instagram famous as a way of coping with her mother’s death. Her landlord says if she cannot pay the rent, she will be evicted in a month. The narrator has almost no money in her bank account. All of her mother’s accounts have been frozen. Against the odds, @FranklintheFluff gets inundated with followers, likes, hearts, and brand deals. Instagram fame seems within reach. Just after getting enough sponsorship money to pay the rent, Franklin starts refusing to eat food. The more the narrator pressures him to pose for photos, the more sick that he gets. To help him, the narrator is forced to realize that she needs to be able to reach out to others. Through her experience with Frank’s illness and eventual death, the narrator is able to start dealing with her grief over her mother, as well as confront her romantic feelings towards her friend Ty.
