DescriptionPolitical bias can manifest in nearly every area of the academic and scientific enterprise, and thereby undermine the mission of the academy and the uncovering of scientific truths. Across three studies, the present work investigated manifestations of political bias. Using large, geographically diverse samples, new data have been generated on the operating climate for graduate students (Study 1) and tenure-track faculty (Study 2), and on how faculty evaluate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) statements for faculty hiring (Study 3). These studies provide novel insight on the experiences of academics, and on how DEI statements are perceived and evaluated.
