DescriptionThe study area in this report is the shallow water area of the Delaware River Estuary from Reedy Point, Delaware to the head of tide at Trenton, New Jersey. Shallow water areas are defined as those areas within the photic zone, from mean low water (MLW) to a depth of ten feet below MLW. The purpose of the study is to develop a base for assessing cumulative effects of previous and future habitat losses or gains, or existing and potential shallow water habitat, in evaluating permit applications to the Philadelphia District, U.S. Corps of Engineers involving encroachments. This information will be used to provide input to harbor line revisions as appropriate. Topics covered include: history; ecology of estuaries; evaluation of site specific locations; water quality; and subarea summaries.
