DescriptionThe Fossil Preserve built as part of the Cliffwood Beach Shore Protection project in the mid 1970's is important to scientists. The Township of Aberdeen now wants the Preserve filled to halt further cliff erosion and avoid safety problems. Before filling the Preserve, the N.J. Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Coastal Resources will mitigate the loss of access to the fossils by contracting with Rutgers to conduct a new scientic study of the fossil exposure to retrieve and analyze a fresh supply of fossils.
