DescriptionThe New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is committed to implementing a comprehensive, statewide watershed management strategy. Part of that strategy is to determine the assimilative capacity of the state's waterways and to assess the extent of any impairments. In this regard, the Bureau ofFreshwater and Biological Monitoring ( BFWBM ) has been requested to provide reconnaissance monitoring on some of the waterways currently listed on the state's 303(d) "Impaired Waters" list. The purpose of such sampling is to assess the validity of those impairment designations and to gather information for the design of possible sampling programs for the development of a Total Maximum Daily Load Model.
