DescriptionGlauconite, an iron-rich, phyllosilicate mineral, occurs in significant concentrations in certain sedimentary formations that underlie the New Jersey Coastal Plain. Chemical analysis of pristine glauconite samples, from a deep core in the New Jersey Coastal Plain, revealed substantial concentrations of total arsenic and beryllium. The principal focus of this investigation is to determine a natural background concentration, using a prescribed acid-leach method of the U.S. EPA, for 24 target analyte list (TAL) metals, excluding mercury, in glauconite-bearing soils of the New Jersey Coastal Plain physiographic province.
