DescriptionAn alternative approach to the problem of shoreline erosion is to manage the use of the coastline in a manner which is compatible with the natural forces that shape the coastline. The management area is to be located in the dune zone because of certain protective properties associated with these dunes. The establishment of a management area must be based on scientific theory and on empirical data. This study presents a dune management model which includes the creation of a Dune Management District and the identification of practices which should be encouraged within the district.
