DescriptionFor more than a decade the Borough of Bound Brook has actively
engaged in a municipal planning program. In 1954, the Planning
Board, with the assistance of its planning consultants, prepared
a master plan based on conditions that existed at the time. Since
1954 new development of all kinds has taken place in and around
the Borough. Areas formerly vacant are now developed with new
residential subdivisions and demands for municipal facilities and
services throughout the area have increased greatly as a result of
the surge in population.
Significant changes in traffic patterns as a result of major highway
and road construction have also developed. The rotary, the Mountain
Avenue overpass at Route 22 and new Route I-287 have all been
built in an effort to relieve congestion and to increase traffic safety.
It is expected that these in turn and especially the new Route I-287
will provide a stimulus for new commercial, industrial and residential
growth in and around Bound Brook.
Because of the growth and major changes that have occurred in the
past few years and those changes which can be expected in the
future, it became obvious that a revision of the Master Plan was
necessary. The Borough is taking this opportunity to prepare for
new growth so that the maximum benefits can be derived for the
community.
