DescriptionThe New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Green Acres Program was created in 1961 to meet New Jersey's growing recreation and conservation needs. Together with public and private partners, Green Acres has protected almost 620,000 acres of open space and provided hundreds of outdoor recreational facilities in communities around the State. Funding was included in the state's FY08 budget for open space acquisition and park development projects This document describes projects by local governments and nonprofit organizations for open space acquisition and park development that the Green Acres Program has recommended to the Garden State Preservation Trust for funding. Local government projects are listed by county, and nonprofit grants and loans are listed by organization name.
