DescriptionThe New Jersey Climate Adaptation Alliance (NJCAA) is involved in development of a set of state and local public policy recommendations to enhance climate change preparedness and capacity in New Jersey. The NJCAA has solicited input from stakeholders in the investor-owned utility, telecommunications, and cabletelevision sectors as to perceptions of climate change impacts to their businesses and anystate and local policy changes they would recommend to allow the sectors to better preparefor and respond to a changing climate. Investor-owned utilities hold a unique place as “natural monopolies” and differ substantially from other business sectors. Questionnaires were developed for the water/wastewater,electric, gas, and telecommunications sectors. The report discusses: perception of climate change in the utility sector; climate change impacts of concern; sectoral perceptions of preparedness; leading practices; challenges; and recommendations.
