DescriptionTo mitigate the loss of the Westbound Shelter House of the historic Broad Street Station, which had to be demolished to permit needed improvements to enhance commuter rail service on the M & E system, the State Historic Preservation Office and NJ TRANSIT agreed to restore the main station building to its original1903 appearance, and to conduct a public education and outreach effort on the history of how the growth of the station, City, and its people and commerce were intertwined. The outreach effort included the development and inclusion.of artistic plaques at the station, and the preparation and distribution of this booklet reproducing the plaques, to tell the inter-related history of the station, the Morris and Essex Railroad Lines and Newark's transportation, industrial and cultural history.
