DescriptionThis document provides supporting information for a petition to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) to designate the Ramapo River Basin as a Sole Source Aquifer (SSA). Under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), Federal financial assistance is not available for any project that might contaminate an aquifer, where that aquifer is the principal drinking water source for the area. However assistance may be available to ensure the prevention of contamination. As part of a petition for SSA status, this document details the topography, climate and hydrogeology of the Ramapo River Basin, and explains that the area is both susceptible to contamination and suffers a lack of alternative drinking water sources.
NotePurpose: To provide supporting information for a petition to the USEPA to designate the Ramapo River Basin as a Sole Source Aquifer.
