DescriptionPesticide compounds were detected in all 50 water samples collected from streams in New Jersey and Long Island, New York, during June 9-18, 1997. Samples were analyzed for 47 compounds, of which 25 were detected. The number of pesticides detected at each site ranged from 1 to 14. All pesticide concentrations were within both U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and State maximum contaminant levels (MCL?s) for drinking water and USEPA lifetime health advisory levels (HAL?s).
NotePurpose: Pesticide use has significantly increased agricultural productivity; however, potential adverse effects on nontarget organisms and the environment in general have become a matter of concern.
