DescriptionThis report characterizes the anadromous fishery resources of the Passaic River and selected tributaries below Dundee Dam. It emphasizes documentation of the spawning runs and various life stages representing recruitment of clupeid fish species, including alewife, blueback herring, and American shad. The study is divided into three parts: a preliminary survey to determine if anadromous fish are entering the Passaic River for spawning; and investigation, with sampling, in specific reaches of the Passaic River drainage, to determine use by anadromous fish for spawning; and juvenile sampling to determine the use of the lower Passaic River and tributaries by anadromous fishes for nursery purposes and as indicators of spawning success.
