DescriptionThis report is a "report card" on the long-term trends that can enhance or destroy the quality of life in New Jersey, as well as the lives of those that will inherit the Garden State in the future. Eleven goals are offered in this report, as a result of a creative community dialog about the common future, drawing on the knowledge and concerns of New Jerseyans from all walks of life: environmental and business leaders, social activists, scientists, government officials and citizens of all ages. The goals are as follows: economic vitality, equity, strong community, culture and recreation, quality education, good government, decent housing, healthy people, efficient transportation and land use, natural and ecological integrity, protected natural resources, and minimal pollution and waste. Achieving a sustainable state, ensuring that the New Jersey passed on to the descendants will be healthy, efficient and just, means taking the hard tradeoffs and balanced judgments that take everyone's interests into account -- including those of the children and grandchildren.
