DescriptionPhysical oceanographic processes are known to influence coastal biological oceanographic patterns, but the magnitude and significance of their affect is unknown especially for adjacent estuaries. This study examines how one physical process may affect pattern larval fish recruitment for several economically and ecologically important species in a southern New Jersey estuarine complex. The objectives of this study were to verify the occurrence of summer upwelling events in the lower portion of the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve at Mullica River-Great Bay and to test for the effects of these events on the occurrence and abundance of fish species recruiting to estuarine nurseries. We verified that coastal upwelling events do affect the adjacent estuaries within the JCNERR.
