DescriptionThis study considers the problem of estimating the annual catch of New Jersey's mixed-species marine sport fishery in order to provide base line trends in state-wide harvesting. A panel of 304 marine sport fishermen selected from a stratified random sample of New Jersey residents and sampled periodically during 1975 provided the source of the data. The primary objectives of this study were to provide harvest estimates of the principal salt water gamefishes harvested by New Jersey residents during 1975, and to evaluate phone interviews of a panel of salt water fishermen as a technique for obtaining harvest estimates. Estimates include the following species: striped bass, mackerel, whiting, cod, pollack, winter flounder, weakfish, tuna, fluke, and white perch.
