DescriptionThis Diagnostic Feasibility Study for the Sylvan Lakes analyzes the existing land use and population of the lakes, as well as its general characteristics and water quality. Physical characteristics such as surface area, volume, and depth are measured, while concentrations of phosphorous, orthophosphate phosphorous, ammonia nitrogen, and chlorophyll are among many other components measured for water quality data. Existing problems call for both watershed management practices and lake restoration procedures. Suggestions for Watershed Management alternatives are Agricultural and Urban Best Management Practices. Suggestions for suitable lake restoration methods are listed as Sediment Sealing, Herbicide Application, Aquatic Weed Harvesting, Aeration/Circulation, Dilution/Flushing, and Dredging. The objective of Sylvan Lakes restoration is to restore the recreational uses of the lake, which include boating, fishing, swimming, and general aesthetics.
